Job Title: Development Director
Department: Development Unit
Reporting Line: Country Director
Job Purpose: The Development Director leads in the process, review and implementation of the development strategy of ADRA in the context of the Uganda Vision 2040, National Development Plans and the UNDP’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development Program and project progress, challenges and constraints are regularly assessed, communicated to relevant internal and external stakeholders for improvement and learning
  • Regularly monitor project progress and advise Country Director of areas for improvement and follow-up
  •  Maintain and update the Development Program dashboard and reporting schedule, and shares them with team members as appropriate
  •  Oversee the Development Program database to ensure knowledge management and use of project related documentation and programmatic analysis and learning
  •  Update donors of the development program and project progress, and any amendments needed in terms of project scope, targets, budget, and possible extension
  •  Represent ADRA in interagency meetings and forums
  • Liaise with government, cluster groups, Adventist institutions and churches, NGOs, and local communities in meetings and events
  •  Develop relationships with potential development donors with the objective of seeking more funding and opportunities of interventions
  •  Mentor and assist program members and project managers throughout the project cycle management
  •  Monitor projects on a regular basis and share monitoring reports with project managers and the Country Director
  •  Ensure donor progress and financial reports are submitted according to the submission schedule
  •  Ensure that project baseline, mid-term and final evaluations as well as lessons learned workshops are conducted and results disseminated
  •  Organize best practice and lessons learned results to be published to the ADRA network, donors, and local government
  •  Future development projects are developed in consultation with key stakeholders and team members
  •  Drive the development of programmatic strategies with ADCOM and program team members
  •  Take primary responsibility for the development and quality control of development proposals
  •  Lead the overall planning for field assessments and ensure that processes are adequate and produce necessary information for proposal development
  •  Other duties as assigned by the Country Director

Required Experience and Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Community Development, Project Management or similar field
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience in significant management roles
  •  Proficient program management and implementation skills
  •  Demonstrated experience with the undertaking of community assessments and analysis
  •  Demonstrated proposal development skills with a track record of many approved project proposals by a wide range of donors
  •  Demonstrated mentoring, coaching, and team leadership skills
  •  A passion for social justice and community service delivery
  •  Proven experience of using MS Office application (Word, Excel, Access)
  •  Willingness to frequently travel, sometimes under difficult conditions
